Training Requirements

Annual Training for WU faculty & staff

WU laboratory and clinical faculty, staff, and students working in laboratories are required to have annual documented training covering OSHA and EPA topics. Administrative and clerical staff are also required to have documented safety training. It is recommended that office staff attend Office Safety training at least once every three years. There are 3 alternatives to attending one of our scheduled interdepartmental sessions. EH&S can provide on-site training for groups of 50 or more, safety contacts can train their own department or lab after receiving "train-the-trainer" materials from EH&S, and staff can be trained with our on-line option at www.ehs.wustl.edu (see training on-line option). Off-site clinics may schedule training at their location by calling our office at 362-6816.

"Train the Trainer"

Assign a representative or "safety contact" to be responsible for training the rest of the department, division, or laboratory. The safety representative attends our training, receives a packet of training materials, and presents the training to co-workers. Signatures must be recorded at time of training, along with a list of topics covered and stored in the department. This is a great opportunity to make training more lab specific. Email our office at esafety@msnotes.wustl.edu to receive a packet of training information.

Basic Safety Training for New Employees

All new employees are required to attend the Human Resources Orientation which will now include Laboratory and Clinical Safety Training. Please call the Human Resource Department at 362-7196 to register. Orientation is offered each weekly.
