Exposure Monitoring

Environmental Health & Safety will conduct initial monitoring for any substance on List 1, if that chemical is used outside the chemical fume hood and if used in significant quantity. This will be performed to establish that there is "reason to believe" that there will be no overexposure. EH&S will also perform exposure monitoring if requested for any other substances that are on the OSHA Z-List.

OSHA regulated chemical exposure monitoring must be conducted in accordance with CFR 1910.1003-1910.1050. If an overexposure occurs, engineering controls will be reviewed and periodic monitoring will be conducted to determine that the implemented engineering controls are adequate. Monitoring may be discontinued when at least two consecutive monitoring periods show no overexposure. A report must be written to document why monitoring was discontinued.
